2023 NC OBX Fins and Feathers

I am writing to express my sincerest appreciation for inviting me to your 12th Annual event. From the moment I arrived at Norfolk airport, I was warmly welcomed by your facilitators and escorted to the lodge. The activities you provided were truly remarkable. The waterfowl hunting and tuna fishing were especially enjoyable. I was also impressed by the delicious food and the hospitality of everyone involved. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a special event. Your commitment to helping wounded veterans is truly inspiring. Thank you again for your generous invitation and for making this event so memorable.

Thank you WWIA for bringing me to this event. This experience was more than what I could have expected. I am blown away by the support that this community has thrown behind this organization. Again, thank you for bringing me to this event and hunt. These memories will last a lifetime.

R. Maule, USMC

Duck hunting and deep sea fishing were not on my “bucket list”. However, they should have been. I think you all have started up something in duck hunting for me that will last a lifetime. Thank you for showing kindness and loyalty to all the service members. You made a tremendous impact. There are over 100 Purple Heart soldiers from my past unit (542nd Maint.) that I will be reaching out to and telling them of your hospitality and love. Keep up the good work! God Bless and many thanks!

P. Wolfe, US Army

This was an event I will never forget. The amount of support for the Wounded Warriors was outstanding. Everyone was so nice and giving. It also felt great to be around other Wounded Warriors, to include the Guides. Even though we did not catch a tuna or harvest any ducks, I still had a great time. Thank you for the friendship and hospitality!

2023 MD Duck and Goose

I just wanted to extend my appreciation and thanks for an amazing weekend, it is hard to convey how grateful I am. The people that put this event on are some of the most amazing people I have ever met.
I just wanted to let you know how much that I have appreciated and enjoyed this event, thank you.

Sincerest regards,
Rick Skidis

I wanted to thank all of the personnel that helped put this event together. The graciousness and kindness that was shown was infinite. This is the first veteran event that I have been a part of since I retired in 2009. Matt Upperman introduced me to WWIA, and I can’t thank him enough. From the first introduction from Corrina to our Guides, Gabe and Derek to the other vets and most of all our Hosts, this has been an amazing event! Special thanks to Brian, Chip, Brandon, JR, Dave and everyone else involved. I apologize if I left anyone’s name off the list. Healing comes in our life at different times and for different reasons and this event has helped me heal. Many thanks and respect.

Thank you for this opportunity. Not only did I see new places, but I’ve made some new friends both veteran and civilian. The Hosts were incredible folks who’s number one priority was the Heroes. Again, thank you to the WWIA for this incredible experience, these trips are soul rejuvenating.

2023 AL Long Leaf Deer and Quail Hunt

This has been an awesome weekend. The guys from Long Leaf are an amazing group of American Patriots. I can’t thank them enough for this weekend.

H. Hainline, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

I tell you what, there is nothing better to do than to get to come hang out and hunt with some guys that know what it is all about. This whole weekend has been top-notch. Some of the guys worry about if everyone kills a deer. But honestly, I would have had just as good of a time if I didn’t kill anything at all. It’s much more about the brotherhood and fellowship and this bunch knocks it out of the park. Thank you all so much.

L. Chambers, USAF

WWIA this was one of the finest weekends I can remember. It wasn’t just the hunting and the good food but the people and hanging out. Just an awesome experience with great people. I would do this any day of the week. Thanks again, I loved every minute of it.

2023 Wisconsin Woodturning

This week has been so special. Good friends and brothers. I am so thankful for the lessons and such a relaxing time. It really makes me a better person. This program really saves lives. Such kind and caring people. Tony you are the most caring and generous person I have ever met.

L. Roszell, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

Woodturning with Tony and the guys is something I look forward to every year. They are some amazing and generous people. I lost my Dad in September and am in the process of a divorce. I have been in a very dark place with little to no ambition or motivation to even get out of bed. These gentlemen are so wonderful, I got here and immediately my spirits started to lift. I feel wanted when I am here. This is an amazing event that I love to attend. I am not really into fishing and I love hunting, but ion all honestly I would trade a hunt to come out here anytime. Thank you so much to Tony, Mike, Al and Corrina for making this possible both for myself and for other vets. It is an amazing experience that I am honored to be invited to. It helps more than you could ever imagine.

J. Chance, USMC

The stories I will carry from my time here will be repeated until I leave this earth. The skill I have been taught by such highly skilled artisans will be one more thing I can teach my daughters and will help me to create a lifetime of memories for us and an invaluable skill for them. I can honestly say that my time in Tony’s shop under the patient and watchful eyes of Bon and amongst new found friends has been the uplift my tired heart needed. I will never be able to repay my time nor show just how much I appreciate this blessing. God Bless you all!

A. DeLagarza, US Army

This event was the best thing I have experienced. I never imagined my hands would be able to create such beauty after what happened overseas. Not only did I create beautiful art from wood, but I gained new friends. Tony was amazingly patient with all of us, and the other instructors would help and assist at any time. Working with Ken, he showed me multiple ways to use different tools and techniques. Ken was patient with me and made me feel welcome. I will take what I learned and the open welcome I felt and carry it with me. I truly can’t wait to hopefully come back again soon.

2023 AL Turkey and Hog Hunt

I wanted to thank you for the amazing time I had at the WWIA turkey hunt in Alabama. WWIA is a top-notch organization and by far the best experience I’ve ever had hunting through a veteran’s organization. Matt did an incredible job at planning, and I was truly blown away by the thought that was put into everything. You could tell that everything we did was meant for us to enjoy ourselves and forget about any troubles we were having. Having someone put together an event that also has a purple heart and can understand where we are all coming from was a game changer. I am still so thankful for all the gifts we received during the trip. There were a few things that I took away from this trip that actually made a difference in myself for the good. One of the biggest things I took away from the trip was I learned it was ok to be me. It is ok to be proud of the purple heart I have and just because I’m not missing any limbs doesn’t mean I am not as important. Being around others who have purple hearts just like myself and are proud of who they are, really changed me. I had to stop working 2 years ago due to my injuries and I’ve struggled daily being proud to say I’m a disabled veteran.

Again, the WWIA is a world class organization. From the founder to everyone behind the scenes that make these trips happen, they all need awards. As we talked before we departed, I’d love to be a part of WWIA in any fashion. If it’s becoming a guide or simply just cooking at an event, it would be an honor. I’d love to tell people proudly that WWIA changed my life and I’m helping others change too.

N. King, US Army

Thank you for an awesome event. This trip will go in books as the best trip I have been on. The trip isn’t always about killing or catching. It’s the time together with brothers. It is trips like this that give us hope that there is a place for us when we get home.

J. Secrease, US Army

First of all, thank you to everyone who had a hand in this whole event! It is the best feeling in the world when you are taken care of and treated like family by people willing to give anything for you. The hospitality and friendships here are unmatched. Being able to share stories and talk with people who genuinely care makes the healing process so much better. This was an amazing event with incredible people making it happen. Matt Brannon is an outstanding Host who truly shows how much he cares. Special thanks to Kyle Bennett for providing the facilities and being there to listen and have the open conversation. This is the best WWIA event I have been to. I would also give my guide Kyle a 5-star rating.

2023 Great Creek Turkey Hunt

Success! Once again, Great Creek Hunt Club and WWIA knocked it out of the park. From start to finish we felt welcome. The whole-hearted efforts put forth by the guides was very evident and very professional. The coordination made between Tim and the Hunt Club was seamless and fluid. Thank you for a great time.

N. Fox USMC

Having very little experience in the turkey woods, getting to hunt with WWIA and the Great Creek Hunt Club has been a tremendous time of fellowship and education. The great men of Great Creek Hunt Club hosted an absolutely wonderful weekend that was both fun and relaxing. All weekend Andy and all his club members offered their best efforts to make hunting engaging, safe and most of all fun. The hunting was excellent, the food was delicious and the experience unforgettable. Our WWIA representative, Tim Spence was very helpful in ensuring our acclimation into the fold of fellowship. I truly appreciate the opportunity to meet everyone during the spring turkey hunt with Great Creek Hunt Club. Words are not enough to capture the totality of positive experiences I had this weekend. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart. The memories will last me a lifetime.

W. Gott, US Army

What an amazing time. I have never been turkey hunting, so this has been great. I have learned so much and I was even able to shoot a turkey. This is my second time coming here and I absolutely love it. When I first got here, I said that I wanted the full hunting experience, and I got it. I got to do so much fun stuff that for a bit I felt normal. I completely forgot about my aches and pains. I was living in the moment. Tim and the hunt club made me feel welcome. This has been an amazing experience. From the bottom of my heart and from my family, I would like to thank you all! My wife said this is the first time she has seen me actually smile! I will not forget this event.

2023 Kansas Cast & Blast

This was an amazing event. My guide was patient with me even though I was slow walking and missed a bird, then missed 3 big toms. Matt was fun and helpful. Carl was an amazing Host. All the guides were great. The people who stopped in were cool. I was my own worst enemy with smoking. I tried to be more social this trip. I didn’t know Kansas had so many hills. My guide worked well with me within my limitations. Event though I did not get a turkey, I had a great time.

J. Cushman, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

Words cannot accurately describe what an amazing event this was. Everyone involved went above and beyond to make this an outstanding event for the veterans. The sense of fellowship was exceptional, and the Kansas landscape was beautiful. This was listed as a turkey hunt, but it was so much more. The ability to spend quality time with great patriots who opened up their land to us, make new friends and spend time in nature does so much more than any medicine or doctor’s appointment could ever do. Thank you to our Host Carl Suter for his hospitality and culinary masterpieces. Thank you to all who were involved in this event, you have made an impact larger than you will ever know.

E. Walsh, USMC

What an amazing event. The Host and local families were all so great. The guides and hunt club were positive and did everything trying to get guys on birds. The hunting was amazing and what a great group of veterans.

2023 WI C & B

This was a wonderful weekend of fellowship. I enjoyed the woodturning instruction and the hunting. Nothing beats getting away from the normal hustle in life and meeting new people. Everyone at this event was top class people and they are all welcome at my lodge. Thank you to all who made it possible.

Awesome trip, amazing people. I appreciate the opportunity to meet other veterans and the great folks who support the trip to Wisconsin. Thank you to the WWIA staff for putting this together.

G. Cooper, US Army

This has been an amazing trip. I want to thank WWIA and the great folks in Wisconsin for making my trip absolute perfection. Thank you for making me feel like I am part of the wolf pack and for giving me the opportunity to meet other brothers in arms. All the support you all give us veterans means so much to me from the bottom of my heart. As much as I love to hunt (I got to harvest a turkey), the most important part was the camaraderie. Thanks again and God Bless.

A. Valerio, USMC

First off, words cannot describe how grateful and appreciative I am for WWIA to allow me this amazing opportunity. I have had an amazing time getting to know and talk to so many great people. I also picked up a new hobby along the way (woodturning), it was so much fun to learn and make something out of a chunk of wood, just amazing. The food was to die for, the new friends I’ve made, the great stories and conversations were all amazing. I may not be going home with a bird but that is why it is called hunting and not killing. I will try again in the morning. I just enjoy being in the woods, seeing and hearing nature. Taking a turkey would just be a bonus but not a necessity. I had a wonderful time and hope to go to more events in the future. I appreciate everything WWIA does for us. Thank you for everything.

2023 Western Pennsylvania Turkey Hunt

I would like to thank all involved in the 8th Annual Rural Valley Turkey Hunt. The outpouring of support and appreciation from the staff and all involved was amazing. Many times, veterans exit the service, many after years of combat, and they feel somewhat lost and detached. Many times, they simply can’t adjust to their new environment. These events are priceless to us to allow us to reconnect. Thank you so much.

T. Campbell, US Army

This was my second WWIA trip. The Host and guides were the greatest. These trips, I know help me with dealing with many things that I deal with on a daily basis.

A. Schreckengost, US Army

I get caught up with my day-to-day hustle. I try to juggle being the best husband, the best father, a good son, and a hard-working employee. I know I struggle with all of that as well as keeping the demons in my head from taking over. You tend to forget how fragile the balance is, but you are always one trigger away from losing it all. This weekend was the reset I was craving. I needed to talk with other men that fight the same fight. I needed some time to relax and be worry free.

I would like to thank our Host for such a great event. I know there was a great deal of planning to make sure every little detail was taken care of. Thank you to all the guides that sacrificed their time to try and get us on turkeys. Thank you to everyone that cooked all the awesome food. Thank you to the WWIA for the invitation and thank you to the other veterans that gave so much to our wonderful country so that we still have the freedom to do things like this.

Thank you for putting on this event and having me out here. I had a blast and enjoyed every minute of my time here. I met some great people, ate great food, and really enjoyed getting out into the woods. The memories I will take back with me and they will always put a smile on my face. You all have something special here and it means a lot to me that I was able to attend and be a part of this. I really appreciate everything.

J. Williams, USMC

I can’t say thank you enough! I put off applying for a hunt because I really don’t like being around people, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do it anyways. I felt welcome as soon as I got here, great Hosts, great guides, and a great group of guys to hunt with. I am really glad that I did this and will be trying to get on other hunts in the future.

N. Greve, US Army

This was my second experience with WWIA and just like the first time, this weekend was awesome. The Hosts and all the volunteers were outstanding. The hunt was great, but only a small part of what made this weekend. The common bond of the guys and the time spent in fellowship, talking about their experiences and passions created such a positive time. Thank you to all of those involved.

I have attended several events with WWIA and it never fails. Whether being blessed with a harvest or not, the folks that put these on for us are always so caring and thoughtful. 2023 Ohio Freemasons Walleye Fishing

Super job! The staff and everyone involved was fantastic. This is my first ever encounter or chance to be involved in any veteran organization function. The few of us developed a closeness, bond that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. The fishing was great but the fellowship was even better. Amazing how so many loving people went out of their way to share this blessing. Thank you to all that let us share and make memories. Derrick was very professional, yet so personal. God Bless and thank you all for a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you so much.

B. Williamson, US Army, Vietnam

I had a great time during this event. It was a much-needed break for me, and I am so appreciative of the WWIA and the Ohio Freemasons. Derrick, our WWIA Guide has done an outstanding job and made sure that we all had an amazing time. I can tell he truly cares about helping us and that means everything. I would also like to thank our Host, Virgil and our Boat Captains, Mark, Matt and Mike. I went out both days with Mark and his wife Meme. They were extremely helpful on the boat and actually had us doing everything on our own, which I loved. We managed to catch some big ones. Also, we limited out on our second day. It was a trip I will remember forever. I would also like to thank the Wild Waves Motel owners and their staff for the accommodations and also preparing all of the great food. Lastly, I just want to say thank you to anyone else that had anything to do with the planning and execution of this event. It has changed my life forever. Thank you!

C. Loyd, US Army

Where do I begin!? What an amazing experience! From the cooks to the Boat Captains, everyone went above and beyond to put the Heroes needs above everything else. To the Boat Captains, Mark and Meme, Mike and Dana, and Virgil and Matt, thank you so much for this opportunity. Derrick, thank you for being an amazing Guide, always putting us Heroes first, always making sure we were taken care of. This was a much-needed trip for me. A mental reset. It was great to feel relevant again. I tend to feel lost most days. I just want to thank every one of you. What an epic trip.

J. Frazier, US Army

Virgil, Thank you! WWIA, Corrina, John, the Guides, the donors, and supporters, you make all of this possible through love and sacrifice. The trip was fantastic, the weather was great, the fishing was amazing. I am not sure where there is room to improve here, just keep doing what you are doing. Thank you for taking the time to sit and listen, cook a meal, or donate your fishing expertise. Nothing was overlooked and again it was a life-changing experience.

2023 Lake Erie Trophy Walleye Fishing

Thank you for such an amazing event. I can’t begin to explain how incredible the opportunity for the trip was and how invigorating it was for me. Getting to be around other veterans from all over the country was a great experience and the people that you have hosting this event, as well as the guides, are all truly incredible. The nicest, most accommodating people I’ve ever met, and I am truly grateful for getting to take part. Getting to see the Vietnam guys get honored and their reactions was something I will never forget. Thank you for all that you and LTC (ret.) McDaniel do for the Purple Heart recipients.

C. Cousins, US Army

This trip has been incredible. I was at a point where I would wake up and just exist through life one day at a time. The Hosts, guides and boat captains made for an awesome time. I looked forward to everyday and woke up excited to get going. Thank you all for making this trip possible. The fishing was a blast, and the people were some of the best I have ever met. A fantastic trip and a wonderful group of people.

C. Cousins, US Army

I have to say, this was a true blessing to be out here with great brothers and great people. I know God has kept me around for a reason. Life has been hard lately, and I really needed this trip to fish so I could reset and feel peaceful. I truly can’t say enough about the men and women of the WWIA program. They are the best, and I just want to thank everyone for a great weekend.

E. Banks, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

I didn’t know if I wanted to come. Corrina had called me earlier in the year for another event and I had turned it down. I figured I would accept this one or she may not call me again, lol. But once I got here everyone was so accommodating. Honestly, I am not used to being celebrated for my injury, so I just roll with the punches. This event was great, good food and good people. I learned that the sea is not my friend, I got seasick both trips out, other than that I had a great time. I did learn of some new resources for me and my family that I did not know about, and I have been out for ten years.

J. Henry, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

This is my first time with WWIA, and I am amazed. I wasn’t sure that I would ever be able to hunt or fish again after my injuries. However, after being able to drive again after my brain injury and many surgeries, I have taken the chance on the opportunity of a lifetime. I now have my confidence back to get out and enjoy life again and try the things I used to love doing. The team in Ashtabula, OH are by far the best I’ve been around since I retired and recovered. My hope is to do more adventures now and meet some more amazing veterans, young and old (Vietnam and more). It meant so much to not just be around other Guld War veterans but especially with other Purple Heart Veterans that came before us. Laying the groundwork for us. I am so grateful for those veterans and the wonderful people that served us this week. Thanks to the great sponsors and guides that worked so hard for us so we could all share this time. I thank God for WWIA and everyone who makes this happen. All my love, prayers and gratitude!

S. Owen, US Air Force
Purple Heart Recipient

From the moment I received the phone call from Corrina Hart to the end of the event, I met so many friendly and helpful people. I was excited about going on a fishing trip but was also concerned about some of the old thoughts that would be re-awakened. Meeting the other Purple Heart veterans put all that at ease quickly. The Ashtabula people were wonderful. The work the WWIA program is doing made it even more exquisite. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

M. Olson, USMC

This event has helped me very much to see that people do care. I had a wonderful time. Everyone has been great. I live in Oklahoma far away from people. This trip has shown me there are good people again, thanks.

Words cannot even describe how grateful I am to be here this weekend. I was in Afghanistan from 2003-2004, in my Unit, 2nd Battalion 22 Infantry our motto is “Deeds not Words”. What you all do goes above and beyond that. Over the years I have watched as America has fallen apart. At times I have asked myself, “I did this for what?” After this experience I know and understand why we do what we do. In service to others.

This humbling event brings the opportunity for Mark and I to give back to those who have shed blood for our Country. We enjoy every minute. We haven’t met one vet yet who wasn’t appreciative of the events we provided this weekend. All are awesome gentlemen with so much respect. We love fishing and this is the needed lure to give back and help with the Honor. Connect. Heal process. WWIA is such a wonderful organization with lots of events and connections for our Heroes. I get so connected with each of these guys an have such a hard time saying goodbye. Blessings to all.

2023 Saltgrass Red Fishing

Thanks for the best fishing trip I have ever had. It’s not the fishing it is about the people and the comfort level you feel fro everyone. The fact of what you did years ago is not forgotten and is appreciated. The people, the captains and the guides were outstanding. The way we were treated with respect and understanding, they listen to what you say with a care that is outstanding. The whole staff made you feel special.

Thank you, the amount of time you all go through preparing for these events often goes unnoticed by the everyday world. It means the world, not only to myself but my family as well. Being around men and women that put on these events always brings my world compass back to true north. The fishing and the hospitality of the Guides, staff and community have all been so amazing. The camaraderie of my fellow brothers and sisters helps in a way I will forever be grateful for. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you all continue to do.

This event was awesome. I totally love the WWIA, they facilitate an environment and time where I can spend time with like-minded people. The world will never truly understand how different we are after combat. Your life changes in such a way that you can’t really connect with people anymore. It feels like you versus the world. But events like this allow you to finally relax and enjoy the companionship we have been missing for so long. While enjoying activities that we may never get to do due to our disabilities, finances or even the fear of spending time with strangers who just don’t know. This fishing trip was an experience I will always remember. Thank you for YOUR service.

W. Gibson, US Army

Dear Miss Corrina, I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate all your hard work to get my Pat to this weekend of a lifetime. He had so much fun, met so many great people and came home with loads of fish and lots of new friends. When he came home from Vietnam, our nation spit on vets and burned flags in protest of their service. Now, over 50 years later, the pain is still there. Your kindness and dedication in getting Pat to his trip to fish and spend time with other vets who were also wounded in war has helped him more than you know. Pat’s Dad was one of Darby’s Rangers in WWII, so he knew what my LRRP Ranger had been through. He told Pat to keep his head down and not to tel anyone where he had been or what he had done, so he did. He ws never thanked or celebrated or treated as the Hero that he is. Your trip did all of that and more. Thank you so much. If you ever get to Central Texas, call us and we will try to thank you properly. May God continue to guide you in your service to vets. It helps more than you know. Love and gratitude,

2023 Heroes Northland Experience Bear Hunt

I had probably the best time I have ever had. Not just hunting but being with fellow brothers made it comfortable and relaxing. The 250-pound bear was a bonus. There was absolutely nothing bad on this trip. I will remember it forever. Derrick was so easy to bond with. He made it very easy to feel like I was with a brother. Dan and Nancy made me feel like family, Dan was like a crazy uncle. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this adventure. Thank you WWIA and Derrick.

Thank you all very much! I had an amazing time hunting, fishing and just getting to talk and hang out with all of you. Dan and Nancy were wonderful Hosts. They provided everything we needed and everything we didn’t. The food was amazing! Thank you to everyone who made this happen. I hope to see you all again soon. I couldn’t be more happy! This was definitely a bucket list hunt for my life. This is my second event with WWIA. The locals here are just awesome. They all had a hand in making this just an amazing experience. This is my second trip with WWIA and again one amazing event. I cannot express the amount of gratitude to the Guides and locals for giving up a great bear tag for the season. This was a bucket list hunt for myself as I have never been able to get a tag for black bear. Well done! It is nice to see how supportive the locals are to this organization, getting to know you all has taken this trip to the next level. Everyone was very accommodating and super friendly. What an amazing time. I will never forget the memories that were made here in South Dakota. These antelope are no joke to get with a bow. I will always remember the times around the fire as well.

A hunt like this has been on my bucket list for years and when I got the call, I couldn’t have been more excited for it. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect coming west from Pennsylvania, but everyone from the Guides to the Hosts on this hunt couldn’t have been more helpful. This was the first year they started this annual hunt here and it has run so smoothly you would think they have been doing it for years. Everyone was so supportive and welcoming to all of us attending. I hunted with 3 Arrows Outfitters, when I got my opportunity for a shot, and I couldn’t be more thankful for them and their efforts to make sure I sealed the deal. This will be a memory that I remember forever and will be forever thankful for.

This trip has been amazing from start to finish. I can’t express how grateful I am to have been picked for this opportunity. When I first got the call about this trip I was ecstatic. Everyone involved was super helpful and were truly remarkable people. This is something that will stay in my fondest memories for years.

2023 New Hampshire Bear and Bass Event

I’d like to just start by saying thank you to everyone that helped organize this trip. The 5th Annual Bear and Bass trip is going to be one of the most memorable times of my life. From the beginning, Corrina was so helpful and constantly updating us. She was always available and answered any questions we had. Coming to this trip I was a little nervous, but as soon as I arrived everyone was so welcoming and made this trip about the Warriors. There have been points in my life that I sometimes feel lost. I have really missed things like this where we could just reminisce and laugh. I would like to thank James, he has a wealth of knowledge and helped me through the whole hunting process. He made this trip very memorable. Russ and Larry were assisting Roy on this trip, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them. Special thanks to Roy, he is a true leader, and this trip would not be possible without him. Lastly, I would loke to thank the community of Grafton, NH and WWIA. This was not easy to coordinate, but everything was set for us to make this the best hunting trip of my life. Not a lot of people can say they have hunted and harvested a bear. I am fortunate that I can. Once again, thank you to everyone that made this possible. Thank you for letting me hunt with my gunner, Peter.

N. Reina, USMC
Purple Heart Recipient

I cannot put into words the gratitude I feel having been able to attend this event. I was contacted much earlier this year by Corrina with the offer of a WWIA opportunity. I asked if it would be possible to attend an event with a Marine I served and was wounded with. Corrina helped make it happen! For many years life has gotten in the way of being able to truly unplug and spend time with people who are a huge part of making and keeping veterans feel whole. Without James, Roy, Russ, Larry and Carl this event would not have the same impact. I cannot stress how well planned the logistics of this event were. By far the best aspect was the instant camaraderie among fellow veterans. What seems to set WWIA apart is how from the moment I arrived , I felt like family. The hunt itself was both challenging and exhilarating, set against the backdrop of New Hampshire’s stunning wilderness. From practicing patience (waiting for a bear), to seeing one come in and then tracking it over a mile through challenging terrain after shooting it. The experience has enriched my life in more ways than I can express. Lastly, a special thanks to Roy and James for the unforgettable memories and the continued support you provide veterans.

2023 Central PA C & B

Day 15,695 of an unknown journey. I just finished another amazing trip with WWIA! Some people say that life is the longest thing you will ever do but honestly, the drive home from here is. The amount of smiling, laughter and joy cannot compare to anything in-between. Greg making jokes about his amazing cooking to seeing Kathy’s smile every morning. These are memories that will be thought of forever. Unfortunately, I have a 3-hour drive to remember these, but at least I have them. I did get to see someone that makes my heart smile and that tops it all. So, thanks to Gravel Spring Lodge for the smiles, the laughs, the tears and most importantly the family.

J. Chrzanowski, US Army

The WWIA is an amazing organization to help us wounded in action to take the opportunity to get out with other wounded veterans and enjoy hunting and fishing. We get to forget our problems in the world and relax. We learn how to adapt with our disabilities to enjoy the sport of hunting. The people that sponsor and the local support are as important to the healing of emotions. We are not alone. The trip in PA was exciting and the people were awesome. Oh, and the pasta salad, don’t forget the pasta salad.

2023 South Dakota Archery Mule Deer Hunt

The SD mule deer trip was an amazing experience, I have never done anything along those lines with hunting. While we did rough it, and deal with the extreme weather it was all worth it in the end. It was a little weird to have Derek as my volunteer guide, but it was great getting to know him better and chasing two mule deer with him. This trip really helped me take a break from everything in my life and gave me a breath of fresh air and helped me reset.

Truly had a great experience. Very thankful for all of the hands involved. Met a ton of great people and created bonds that will last a lifetime. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped put this hunt together in South Dakota. The team here is second to none. Finn walked with me for three days straight. We spotted, we stalked, and in the end, we were able to connect. Truly a hunt of a lifetime chasing mule deer. From the great people I met to seeing the northern lights, this was an absolutely amazing trip. To WWIA, thank you for allowing me to attend this amazing hunt. If there was ever a trip that a bow hunter wanted to go on, this is ti. It is a very challenging hunt, but once you harvest, all the hard work and effort are worth it. Truly blessed.

R. Montez, US Army
Purple heart Recipient

My experience here with the hunt in South Dakota was hands down one of the best things that have ever happened to me in my life. The harvest of my trophy mule deer (first one) wasn’t the biggest one out there but absolutely a trophy for me as it was not an easy task. The sage adv ice and guidance by Finn Sacrison prior to the trip regarding archery tackle was integral to my success. Additionally, his brother Drew’s professionalism, confidence and field prowess allowed me to seal the deal the first morning of the hunt. Finn’s wife, in-laws and dedicated crew of rough necks and linemen were devoted to this cause and made a huge impact in my life. They proved that we still have true patriots who love their freedom out on the grass prairie. Their actions and support of wounded veterans is an act of kindness I have never experienced before. If I didn’t harvest a deer at all, I would have been just as happy spending time with these wonderful people. I am very thankful for this opportunity. I pray the initiative continues and highly recommend that any dedicated bow hunter who is up for a challenge request a slot for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you for this.

This was my first time being on an event to help out and not be the WWIA Guide and I really enjoyed helping out and being a part of he event in that way. This is my third year attending this awesome event and I can’t over-emphasize how absolutely special this place is. It is rare that I have a connection to a place, and I feel as though my life was kind of missing something until I started coming here. Even though we are roughing it in tents, enduring extreme weather (24-90 degrees), cactus, dryness, and wet downpours, it all just makes it worth it in the end . You feel accomplished whether you are successful in bagging a deer or not. Hunting with Greg was awesome. Getting to take him to my most favorite place to hunt (The Wall) was an amazing experience. This was a hunt I will never forget. I can’t thank the Sacrison family, all the landowners, the great guides and volunteers enough. They make a great team in making this event what it is. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Hunting for me has always been something that connected me to life before service. With memories of time spent in the woods with my Dad. The reality of 22 years of relentless deployment cycles put an extended pause on my ability to hunt, let alone be able to project, plan and execute a dream Northwoods whitetail hunt. The opportunity to make up for so much lost time and give it a go was amazing. The reception with Chris was first class. The people of Iron River were beyond amazing, and the landscape was second to none. We had a great group of warriors who synchronized like cogs in a watch. Lots of fish, deer, food, and camaraderie. This experience was meaningful to each of us, seeing the best parts of America, that few get to see and creating lifelong connections and memories. Thank you to the WWIA, Chris, Jimmy, Russell, Keith, John, Asa, Brenda, Josh and everyone else that made this a reality for us.

2023 North Dakota Wild Pheasant Hunt

Thank you so much for setting me up on the North Dakota Pheasant hunt last weekend! I had such a great time! I’ve done several different types of hunting in a variety of places, and I can say without a doubt that pheasant hunting is at the top of my favorites! It was so cool to watch the dogs work, and the birds fly, and the beautiful landscape. All just amazing. You all really do a superb job of setting up such a logistically complex trip. The friendships I made were awesome – both with the other warriors and the guides, hosts, etc. Thanks for all you do!

So much fun! My first time in North Dakota and my first pheasant hunt and I am hooked! Everything was top-notch from the Hosts to the guides, to the amazing community of Garrison. This was my first WWIA event and it was definitely one for the books. It was my week of many firsts. First time in North Dakota and first-time pheasant hunting as well. I am truly humbled by the organization’s professionalism, communication and especially the support of all those involved. Jeremy was very helpful answering all our questions prior to travel and all throughout the weekend while participating. Roy was the perfect Host and liaison for this trip as he knew everyone which made everything run smooth. The property owners, guides and all who supported were such an amazing group of people. I am grateful to have met so many who truly care about us wounded vets. I am very interested in becoming a part of the WWIA family as a helper in any capacity I can, even if it starts as a fundraiser for the CFC as we did that in the Marines. God Bless this program and thank you for the trip of a lifetime.

2023 Michigan Patriots Duck and Goose Hunt

The hunting experience was great, but more than that the camaraderie is what I needed. In my day-to-day life of work and family and projects and obligations, people who haven’t been there just don’t understand. Getting together with these men, Brock, Josh, Bill and Jake, served as an extremely helpful tool in recharging my batteries to go get out in the world with people who don’t understand. We were able to talk with each other and make each other feel good about who/where we are now. Brock, Josh and Jake did an awesome job coordinating all the behind-the-scenes work necessary to make all of this happen, and for that I am extremely grateful. As a leader in the Army, I felt that my burdens were mint to carry and that I didn’t need/deserve help, not would any be available to me. Everyone involved in this weekend changed my outlook on that and every person involved in this weekend helped to lighten my load in some way. All of that put simply, thank you. I needed this.

This was my second WWIA event. This year’s event could not have been any better. This was by far one of the best hunts and weekends of my life. 2023 Camp Hackett

This was my first hunt with WWIA and I can truly say it was an amazing time. From start to finish this trip was an amazing experience. WWIA has an unbelievable connection with some of the most supportive, patriotic people who share their love and support to the max. Besides the great hunts and great community backing us, the time spent with my fellow Purple heart brothers is what I will miss the most. Huge thanks to John and Jake for leading this amazing program. I want to finish by thanking not only John and Jake but a huge thank you to Don, Casey, the DeLaskey brothers and John Carlson, you all are truly a blessing.

C. Berry, US Army

What an experience! To come into camp not knowing what to expect and have it turn out to be something so special as this past weekend has been, is unheard of. John and Jake keep things real and to the point, it makes you feel loke family. You are welcome in like they have known you forever. The same can be said for the community, which helped make the event so special. From Travis and Chad DeLaskey to the double John’s who took us out chasing the great giant muskie. To add to the fun the deer stands were ready to go, and we had plenty of snacks and reading material. To say support from the community is great would be an understatement. Mike, Bob, and Scott along with others ensured we had plenty to eat and their support of us as veterans and WWIA is a very special thing. I can’t say thank you enough. The hunt is not always about the kill and this weekend was a perfect example.

2023 Murphy Family and Friends Gulf Coast Hog Hunt

This was my first WWIA event and unfortunately, I don’t think any other event will ever compare. This was seriously one of the most memorable moments of my life. Everyone was so loving, gracious, and humble. Rock, Joanie, Terry and all their friends, neighbors and family were just amazing people. They made you feel so welcome. What an amazing group of people. I was so luck to have been a part of their family, even if it was only for a few days. The hog hunting was just an added bonus. Everyone went above and beyond anything I could have ever imagined. The hog hunting was great, but the people were even better. I’ll remember our conversations and shared experiences for a very long time. I wish I knew of a way or had a way top repay everyone, but I don’t think I ever could. It has been a rough year and this was exactly what I needed. It was good for the soul. O love you all and I thank you all. I hope to see you all again.

As someone who has been on events before this, I knew what to expect. This event has already exceeded my expectations. The Murphy family is amazing. The love along with the quality of this event has been outstanding. I often have anxiety at social events and there was not an exception at this one. The care and understanding I have experienced is without a doubt above and beyond. Mark has really been great in helping to ease my issues and to him I give special thanks. I want to express my gratitude to the WWIA for providing a platform for people like the Murphy family to be able to put on such great events. I really can’t say thank you enough. I have great love and appreciation.

I was a fill in for this trip and man am I glad I was. Just to hang out with all the people that help out on this event was an honor. Hanging out with the other Heroes and catching up with Jason was awesome. To think I almost told Corrina no to attending this event because of my crazy schedule. It was truly an honor to watch someone harvest their first whitetail. I can’t wait until I am sponsoring these types of events. The community up here is top notch and has me looking at houses to buy. Thank you again for the wonderful adventures.

I wanted to start by saying thank you for the opportunity to be able to attend an event like this. Beyond the opportunity, the people I have met while attending this event, I have never felt so welcome. It has been a trip of many firsts for me, my first time being in a place where everyone is genuine and authentic to the point that I had the biggest smile from the moment I got off the plane to the time I left. It has been an emotion filled trip and the good kind. I can’t remember the last time I talked, cried and laughed so much in such a short time but being around great people has definitely changed and uplifted my outlook on my life. It has reminded me that this nation and communities like this one still appreciate and love our country and service members. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I truly appreciate and love everything WWIA stands for. Thank you.

This event has been amazing for me and the other veterans. I’ve grown in my desire to give back to others after seeing some of the other veterans experiencing some “firsts” and experiencing my own joy in many of the successes we shared. The camaraderie with the other Heroes and the guides was much needed and genuine and I leave with a greater knowledge for life and future outdoor exploits. I’ve attended other events run by various programs and this event has been run better and has been more welcoming than others. I am so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to WWIA and everyone I’ve met in Seneca County, NY.

Great group of guys for the 10th Annual WWIA FLX Ducks and Bucks event! These events might be just as therapeutic for the host and community as they are for the Heroes. What a blessing!

K. Tidball, Event Host

I was honored to spend the week with this great group of guys. Hopefully I shared a few useful tips on prepping and cooking wild game and they will enjoy cooking the goose and venison they harvested.

M. Tidball, Event Host

WWIA, Oh my gosh, you have made a difference in my life. I have been with you for ten years and every year is better than the one before. My kids (adults) are so involved as well. Your dedication to our country, I wish we could give as much as you do. Thank you.

T. Ridley, Volunteer

I have been lucky enough to be involved in this event for 10 years as a guide and event coordinator. This is an unbelievable organization that I am proud to be a part of. I am a true believer in the mission statement and what WWIA stands for. I have made many great friends over the years. I look forward to continuing to support WWIA.

E. Riegel, Volunteer

As a guide and G4 for the past 10 years, it has been one of the best life experiences for me. I am a Navy vet and it really makes me feel good to meet new lifetime friends and take the time to show them new experiences in the outdoors. The joy on their faces and the happiness it brings them is the one thing that I look forward to every year. I believe that the WWIA program is not just for the healing of the participants, but for the guides as well. These experiences will be forever embedded in my heart and mind.

Our time at DoubleCreek is in the top ten of my memories. Dennis and Shelley host a great event from start to finish. Their ranch is a gorgeous piece of property hidden in the hardwoods of the TN hills, heaven on earth. They treat everyone like family. The volunteer guides are some of the most genuine people I have met. Listening to their stories around the fire long into the night was great. Where to begin? The selfless generosity of every individual involved in making this event happen is beyond what I thought imaginable. This event was jam packed with excitement, great conversation, amazing food, and some great hunting. We landed, got licensed, guide fell over taking hunting blind with him, reset, shot a nice buck, all within the first four hours of landing. From that point on the Napier boys ruined me . They showed me what duck hunting could be. I am forever grateful for this experience. The connections made here will be lifelong. I am looking forward to seeing other Heroes’ lives change in future hunts.

What a great program you all have here at Napier. The host group treated us like family from the get-go. The staff is amazing here, shout out to Lane, he got my binoculars that I left in the field. I know it wasn’t an easy task, thank you WWIA. About seven years ago I was in a bad place in my life and was able to go to Alabama for a fishing trip and it was life changing to see there are organizations out there that take care of our Purple Heart veterans. Both Jake Hawk and Jake Whipkey were the best guides here and Jake Hawk gave us the shirt off his back to accommodate us at his house. I got to spend a few days sitting in the blind with him and getting to know him. Jake, I appreciate what you do.

This trip has been amazing, so amazing that I am afraid when I wake up tomorrow it will all have been a dream. The hospitality that everyone who put this event together had towards me and the other purple heart recipients is unmatched. This truly was a life-changing event. I was blessed to be able to harvest my biggest buck ever with Jeff, a huge doe with Lance and trap a mess of beaver with Shane. Each person that sat with me on their spots was so nice. What a great time at the Great Creek Deer Lodge. The members truly go out of their way to make us feel welcome and give us 100% of their time to make sure our hunts were successful. The coordination for our daily hunts were top notch, bringing in multiple dogs handlers with up to thirty dogs to assist in us getting a deer.
